Rock legend Rod Stewart made a surprise appearance at Jewish Care’s Rubens House in Ballards Lane Finchley on Sunday 27th May when resident Jane Cohen was enjoying her 100th birthday party. Accompanied by his fiancée Penny Lancaster, Mr Stewart wished the birthday girl many happy returns and stayed for tea and sandwiches.
Their visit was arranged by Mrs Cohen’s son Lionel Conway, who flew in from Los Angeles where he lives, for the occasion. He is president of Stage Three Records and a friend of Mr Stewart.
Mrs Cohen, who was born in the East End of London, has lived at Rubens House for the past seven years. Her brother, Morris Larn, 98, also lives at the same care home.
Care worker Remi Luching said: “It was fantastic. We never expected that Rod Stewart would come. Lionel told us that he wanted to bring a celebrity to Rubens House to show his gratitude for looking after his mum so well. Both Rod and Penny were very friendly. It was a great surprise for us all.”
Also present, Barnet’s Deputy Lieutenant Martin Russell presented Mrs Cohen with a certificate.
