Pamela Raine said: “I’ve always had a house full of teddies and my husband has always bought me teddies. Everyone loves a teddy. It’s a way of earning money for Jewish Care and getting pleasure at the same time.”
Committee member Anne Dembey, whose late parents were also residents, helped Mrs Raine to sew mauve ribbons with the wording “Jewish Care” around the bears’ necks. She explained: “My parents were very happy here so it is nice to give something back.”
Chaired by Maggie Leigh, Friends of Rosetrees committee members are Anne and David Dembey, Sandra Grossman, Kenneth Leigh, Sharon Berry, Pamela Raine, and Pat Taylor.
Daniel Casson, assistant director of fundraising, praised the committee, which is also holding a cards evening this Sunday where the bears will be on sale.
“I think the bears are a wonderful idea and thanks to Pamela’s initiative we can encourage more people to get involved with Jewish Care. Local committees are at the heart of what we do and help us raise the funds we need to provide services for the community.”
They cost £5.99 each or £10 for two plus postage and are also available from the charity’s head office in Colindale.
The bears have their own email: email the jbears here or call 020 8922 2838.
