More than £12,000 was raised at a summer fête held in the magnificent grounds of Jewish Care’s Princess Alexandra Home in Common Road, Stanmore on Sunday 22nd June. The event was the result of months of planning by the home’s fête committee, chaired by Brian Eisenberg.
Mr Eisenberg welcomed around 1000 people to the fete, which was opened by the Mayor of Harrow, Councillor John Nickolay. Resident Molly Da Costa, 94, gave the Lady Mayoress a bouquet.
Dozens of stalls included a tombola, toys, books, bric-a-brac, hats, jewellery and greetings cards, a barbecue and a cakes stall. Children’s activities included a bouncy castle, face-painting, model car racing and a ‘Beat-the-Goalie’ session, with entertainment provided by Immanuel College pupils and Jewish Lads and Girls’ Brigade members.
Speaking afterwards of the money raised, Mr Eisenberg said: “This is absolutely incredible – this is the result of wonderful collaborative work and shows what can be done when we all pull together. This was truly a team effort.”
Those involved included members of Jewish Care’s Challenge Committee, the Stanmore and Harrow branches of the League of Jewish Women, Stanmore WIZO, as well as staff and volunteers associated with the home. Mr Eisenberg paid tribute to the event sponsors TRAK Construction, Allenbuild and The Jewish Chronicle.
He added: “The money we have raised will supplement the home’s operating budget and will allow for the procurement of specialist equipment, outings and activities for everyone who lives at the home.”
Fionnuala Baiden, registered manager of the 72-bed residential care and nursing home, said it was “an incredibly enjoyable afternoon” and thanked the helpers for their energy and dedication.
